Local drivers can build up driving confidence
Older drivers are being encouraged to increase their confidence and stay safe behind the wheel by enrolling on a Driving Advantage course.
The one-day confidence building course is tailored to drivers aged over 60, with presentations and advice from an advanced driving instructor and a physiotherapist.
People who sign up for the course will also be able to take part in mobility exercises, eyesight tests and reaction timing, as well as a fun but informative Highway Code quiz. There will also be the opportunity to discuss driving issues and get practical advice.
“Unfortunately, as we get older changes such as deteriorating eyesight and slower reaction times can begin to affect our driving ability, which can lead to a loss of confidence and a higher proportion of accidents,” said Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways and Transport. “Many older people rely on their cars for independence and this course is designed to help restore confidence and help drivers stay safe behind the wheel.”
The course will run from 10am to 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 29 at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Hatfield. The fee is £20 which includes lunch and refreshments.
